Integrated Afforestation and Reforestation

Integrated Afforestation and Reforestation

Year: 2008 - 2018

Status: Completed

Overview of the Project

NCDC implemented the five-year project entitled Afforestation and Reforestation in Dhading district, Nepal. The project commenced on 1 August 2008 and was successfully completed in June 2018. The working area of the project included 23 Community Forests (CF) covering 8 Village Development Committees namely Dhola, Jogimara, Khalte, Maidi, Nalang, Nilkantha Basaha (Nilkantha-3), Dhodeni (Nilkantha-4), Simle (Nilkantha-7, Nilkantha-8), Salang and Sunaulo Bazaar. However, Jogimara was excluded December in 2012 due to lack of adequate commitment from CFUG. GEOsdR intends to compensate for CO2 emissions due to air travel of G+J employees totalling 7500 tons of carbon through afforestation, reforestation and enhancing the existing forests.

Since August 2008, the project which aims to sequester significant amounts of atmospheric carbon in order to mitigate climate change, implemented different activities in active participation of local communities of the mid hills of Nepal. The project was launched in collaboration with “GEO schützt den Regenwald e.V.” from Germany. The project was able to effectively execute plantation, biogas and ICS installation programmes along with creating environmental awareness, forest fire control, nursery activities, climatic data generation etc in Dhading District.

Period:                        2008 to 2018

Project objectives
The main objectives of the project are to as follows:
• To help reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide by 7500 tons per year (annual average over the project duration) through afforestation/reforestation, upgrading existing forest areas and renewable energy development
•    To contribute to poverty reduction by adopting the sustainable development approach.
•    To develop the capacity of local communities to adapt and respond to climate change impacts

The Project Area
The working area of the project included 23 Community Forests (CF) covering 8 Village Development Committees namely Dhola, Jogimara, Khalte, Maidi, Nalang, Nilkantha Basaha (Nilkantha-3), Dhodeni (Nilkantha-4), Simle (Nilkantha-7, Nilkantha-8), Salang and Sunaulo Bazaar.

Target Group
